Upcoming Beginning-of-Year Assessments

⭐ Wednesday is STAR Testing Day!
ThisĀ Wednesday, our school day will focus on STAR testing. All students are required to attendĀ ONE of the two testing sessionsĀ offered by their Advisor:
šŸ•˜ Session 1: 9:00 AM
šŸ•§ Session 2: 12:30 PM
Students only need to attendĀ one session. Please choose the session that works best for you andĀ be on time and ready to do your best!
šŸ“šĀ There will be no regularly scheduled Live Lesson classes on Wednesday.Ā When students are not participating in STAR testing, they should use the day to work on theirĀ asynchronous courses and assignments, including Edgenuity and Imagine Learning coursework.
STAR testing gives us important information about what students already know and where they may need additional instruction and support.Ā Please take your time and give your best effort so the results accurately reflect what you know.
šŸ’» Testing will beĀ proctored and student screens will be monitored, so students should carefully follow all testing instructions provided by their Advisor.
Remember: Attend at 9:00 AM OR 12:30 PM. Be on time. Follow testing directions. Do your best! ⭐

NBVLA Logo Spotlight

As a brand-new school, our students have the unique opportunity to help shape the identity of NBVLA!
Over the next several weeks, we will feature a different student-created NBVLA logo in our weekly family memo. These designs were created by our students to represent their ideas about who we are and what our school can become.
Once all of our student designs have been shared, we will hold an official schoolwide vote to help select our NBVLA logo!
Until then, enjoy getting a first look at the creativity of our founding students. 🌟
Stay tuned for the official vote!

Help us Decorate 181 Hillman Street NBVLA Hub

We need your creativity!Ā

As NBVLA continues to grow, we want ourĀ NBVLA Hub at 181 Hillman Street to reflect the students who make our school special. We are looking for inspiring quotes to display throughout our space, and we want YOU to help us choose them!

We are especially looking for quotes about:
  • Online and virtual learning
  • Learning in different ways
  • Growth and perseverance
  • Trying something new
  • Reaching your goals
  • Finding the learning environment that works for you
  • The idea that there is more than one way to learn and succeed
Your quote can be something you have heard or read, or you can create an original quote of your own!

Send your quote ideas directly to Mrs. Graf through StudentSquare or ParentSquare.

Selected quotes will be displayed at the NBVLA Hub at 181 Hillman Street

Thank you.

ā° Understanding Attendance at NBVLA

As we begin our regular academic schedule, we want to make sure everyone understands how attendance works at NBVLA.

Being present at NBVLA means participating throughout the school day, not simply logging in for Advisory.

šŸ“šĀ Attend Advisory + All Live Lessons:Ā To be marked present for the day, students must attendĀ morning Advisory and all Live Lesson classes assigned to them that day.

āœ…Ā How Daily Attendance Is Determined:Ā At the end of the day, we will review attendance acrossĀ Advisory and each assigned Live LessonĀ to determine the student’s daily attendance status.Ā

The formula is simple: Advisory + All Assigned Live Lessons = Present for the Day.

šŸ Ā Need to miss a class or leave early?Ā Just like at an in-person school, aĀ parent/guardian must contact the schoolĀ to report an absence or dismissal. Students should not simply log off or skip a class.

🩺 Illness or appointment? Families should submit doctor's notes or other documentation when applicable. Please submit notes to you advisor at this time.

šŸ¤Ā Our goal is support, not just attendance-taking.Ā If we notice a student beginning to miss classes or disengage, we will reach out so we can work together early.

Bottom line: Show up, participate, and communicate. We’re here to help!
